Serene
views from the Cooper Island Beach Club. Once you arrive, place your
meal order, then take off for a leisurely snorkel around the boulders
between the Bay and the Point. Look for various sea urchins and a large
resident octopus which favours Queen Conch handouts. Turtles also love
hanging around these underwater rock formations. This unique and very
popular club is a beach lovers paradise, complete with open-air dining
looking out over the yachts at anchor. (Be sure to try their Conch Fritters
- they are truly the best in the Islands!)
At the heart of a diving and snorkeling paradise formed by the line of small islands marking the southern boundary of the Sir Francis Drake Channel, Cooper Island, together with Salt Island and Ginger Island on each side, has 11 of the 50 or so best known dive sites in the BVI, including the Wreck of The Rhone, Alice in Wonderland and Cistern Point. Devil's Kitchen, on Cooper's windward side is a series of ridges with chambers, caves and coral - with many lobsters and some moray eels. Other dive sites include Thumb Rock, Markoe Point, and the Pat and Marie L. dive wrecks. If you prefer to walk along the beach, check out the formidable looking boulders near the Beach Club - the fairly easy climb really adds some fun to a short, yet breathtaking stroll along the shore towards the villas. |
